Reference, configuration and component-level condition all shape a credible comparison; the largest visible asking price is not a market conclusion.
01

An ask is a starting point

An advertised price tells you what a seller hopes to receive. It does not show whether the watch sold, how long the sale took, whether a trade was involved or what concessions completed the transaction.

Asking prices still have value: they show current positioning and competition. The mistake is treating them as completed-market evidence without discounting for negotiation, time and seller circumstances.

02

Comparable means genuinely comparable

Reference, production period, material, dial, bracelet, condition, completeness, service history, location and seller quality can all affect price. Two watches sharing a model name may deliver very different ownership propositions.

Use the full reference first, then narrow by configuration and condition. If the sample becomes too small, widen the comparison carefully and label the limitation instead of presenting unrelated listings as precise evidence.

03

Four values can all be honest

Retail value describes the price context of a professional sale. Asking value describes current seller expectations. Market value estimates where a supported transaction may occur. Dealer acquisition value reflects the price a professional buyer can pay while assuming preparation, warranty, capital, time and resale risk.

These figures are not competing claims when their purpose is stated clearly. Confusion begins when one is presented under the name of another.

04

Time and liquidity matter

A watch may command a higher result if the owner can wait for the right buyer, document the watch thoroughly and accept transaction work. A lower professional offer may deliver speed, certainty and transfer of responsibility.

Neither route is automatically correct. The meaningful comparison includes net proceeds, expected time, effort, risk and the credibility of the counterparty, not only the largest visible number.

05

Use ranges honestly

A measured range communicates uncertainty better than a precise number unsupported by transaction data. Useful estimates state the assumed condition and configuration, separate different value types and identify where evidence is thin.

Value My Watch is designed as an informational starting point. When an owner chooses to pursue a sale, Sell My Watch can share the watch privately with eligible professional dealers rather than converting an estimate into a promise.
