The short answer

Store watches clean, dry, separated and discreetly in a stable environment. Prevent bracelet-to-case contact, preserve records and accessories separately, and treat winders and presentation boxes as optional tools rather than automatic protection.

01

Keep storage simple

Use a clean, dry, stable place away from direct sunlight, strong magnets and large temperature swings. A lined box, individual pouch or watch roll can prevent contact between cases and bracelets.

02

Avoid scratches from the watch itself

Close bracelets carefully and keep metal surfaces from resting against the caseback or neighboring watches. During travel, give each watch its own secure compartment.

03

Mechanical watches do not need constant motion

A stopped mechanical watch is not automatically a problem. Wind and set it when you choose to wear it, following the manufacturer’s instructions. A winder is a convenience for some complications, not a universal requirement.

04

Preserve the complete set

Store boxes, papers, spare links, straps and service records separately in a safe, dry place. They can make future servicing, fit adjustments and sale easier even when they are not needed day to day.
